Dakhla’s capital is the city of Mut. In this city there
is a temple build in sandstone dedicated to the Theban Triad (the
Kings Ra, Mut and Jonsu). Out from the city you can visit the spring
waters. Most of them have warm water, but there are other ones that
can reach 43 degrees.
At 40 Km more or less to the east of Mut is Bashedi. This village
is now also with the name of “the Pharaonic village”. His walls are
build over an old temple and his entrance is a huge arch that
describes the city as a model village.
In this oasis we have also the city of Balat, that in ancient
times was the capital. Is at around 35 Km to the east of Mut. Is a
small but interesting village, where the streets are covered and
there are a lot of gardens with grapevines and palm trees. There is
also in Balat some graves of the Sixth Dynasty and a Greek
cemetery.
The village of Al-Qasr was the medieval capital build
like a roman colony. His streets are also covered as Balat, to
protect from the sun and the sand. The doors of the houses until now
maintain the old lintels with inscriptions from the Koran.
Mut is probably the most friendly tourist village from the oasis
of Dakhla. It has hotels and attractive places like for example a
swimming pool of sulphur waters. It have twisting streets around
the old houses build with mud bricks. There is also an old citadel
and a Islamic cemetery outside the village.
