The oasis of Farafra in the pharaonic age it was knew with the
name of “ the land of the cow”.
Is the most isolated oasis from the valley of the oasis, but the
one that continue maintaining the fame because of her customs and
devotion. Near the village we can find the spring waters of Bir
Setta. This water is hot and sulphurous. We can find also a lake
called El-Mufid where you can have a bath.
Most of the inhabitants of this oasis are Bedouins. Their houses
are still build of mud with his wooden doors painted in blue, the
same as the other oasis houses. They paint the houses in blue to
ward off the evil eye. There are also other houses painted with
landscapes, birds or animals.
In the village we can found a combination of a house, museum and
studio where a man expose his paint and pottery. This house is
located in a garden full of sculptures created with objects that
were found in the desert.
A few things are known about this oasis before the roman age.
Only some discoveries have been made. There are not a lot of
monuments to visit, the most important think of this oasis are the
sceneries that de desert offers.
