Fayoum is one of the most wonderful areas in Egypt and with a rich and interesting history.
It was one of the areas frequently visit by Egyptians in their vacations, but nowadays is also often visit by Europeans.

In this oasis you can find the Lake Qarun, the third bigger lake from Egypt. His water is salty. Around this lake there are Bedouin villages semi nomad and fishing villages. Something incredible is to be in a desert but where you can sail, swim or fish in this lake.

It’s believed that in this lake it was build the first dam of the world to control the River Nile rises.

Other interesting places that you can visit near Fayoum are the spring hot waters in Ain al-Siliyin and the waterfall of Wadi al-Rayan. Where you can have a bath in both places.

Fayoum, as the same as the other oasis is dedicated to the agriculture. In this oasis we can find cotton, clover, tomatoes, medicinal plants and fruit. The tourist also can enjoy making some shopping in the souk (market) where they can find from copperware and spices to gold jewellery. Also there is a market where you can buy pottery, but this market you can not find it all the days.

Nowadays, Fayoum has a big mix of the monuments that has survive through the history, like for example Pharaonic, Christian and Islamic monuments. The Pharaonic monuments that we can see in this oasis are an obelisk of red granite dedicated to Senosert II in Lahun, the pyramid of Amenemhat III in Hawara, the old city of Karanis with his museum and a infinity of monuments.

Is famous also this area because of the fossils that you can find in the north area of the desert of the lake, apart from shells of different sizes, we can find skeletons of whales, sharks, crocodiles, turtles and horned mammals.
